Extensive, sweltering days\u2014especially those in Central Texas\u2014can be brutal to plants, the supplies we use, and our plant care specialists in the field. Below, I&#8217;ll share some effective strategies to ensure your plants and team can thrive in the harsh summer conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Transporting Plants Safely<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Very few plants can withstand being in a vehicle at temperatures above 95 degrees without suffering rapid and irreversible damage. <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So it takes some creative thinking<\/span> to transport even a 6-inch bromeliad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One strategy is to cover plants with lightweight muslin gauze or row cover to help deflect the sun\u2019s harmful rays and heat. It&#8217;s crucial to work quickly to transfer plants into the building where they belong. Perhaps even consider changing your route to ensure this is done early in the morning when temperatures are cooler. In extreme conditions, like 100-degree heat,<\/span> keep the vehicle running to<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> keep things cool. And remember to bring a second set of keys!&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Caring for Supplies<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s not advisable\u2014and can be dangerous\u2014to leave supplies such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newprocontainers.com\/pokon-leafshine-2x-concentrate.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">plant leaf cleaners<\/a>, horticultural oils, floral paint, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newprocontainers.com\/blog\/everything-you-need-to-know-about-pesticide-labels\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">pesticides<\/a> in a hot vehicle. Only transport what you need for the day and always rinse out sprayers to <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">avoid ruining seals and other sprayer parts.<\/span> This mindful care is essential, especially considering how easily materials can deteriorate under harsh conditions. <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I&#8217;ve seen saucer liners melt, containers warp, and paint surfaces bubble and crack. Stuff happens! <\/span>Remember, protecting what you transport may require some extra effort but preserves your supplies and ensures their effectiveness in the long run.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Personal Health Tips<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Plants wilt and so do people. Taking care that you stay hydrated is crucial, regardless of the season. <\/span>In our busy lives, it&#8217;s easy to forget to drink enough water. Beverages like coffee, soda, and other sugary drinks can deplete the nutrients that we need to function properly\u2014water is life. During the hot summer months, electrolytes are also helpful in preventing cramps, headaches,<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and fatigue.<\/span> I prefer Nuun tablets, which contain less sugar than most popular sports drinks, and are a convenient option to add to your water bottle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s also important to keep your energy consistent. Many of us are constantly on the move, and eating small portions of healthy foods such as sliced fruit, almonds, trail mix, and carrot sticks will help maintain energy levels throughout the day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lastly, remember to breathe. During long stretches of extreme heat, people tend to <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">get uncomfortable and a little testy<\/span>. Taking deep, long breaths can help manage stress and discomfort.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Keeping Your Cool in the Summer Heat<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>As we navigate the challenges of the summer season, remember that a little preparation and awareness can make a big difference in the health of your plants and the well-being of your team.
