What to Consider When Choosing a Large Planter

Big planters make a statement and can transform a commercial or residential space for your clients. But choosing the right large plant pot is crucial for keeping maintenance costs low and ensuring long-term durability. Here are a few points to consider when making your selection:

  1. Lightweight means flexibility: Lighter planter materials like fiberglass or plastic mean large plants can be more easily moved to accomodate changes in design.
  2. Think about the footprint: Larger planters obviously take up more space, so you'll need to consider foot traffic through the area and ensure you leave enough room for movement.
  3. The bigger the planter, the better the water retention (usually): Larger plant containers need less frequent watering than smaller pots. Build this into your maintenance schedule.
  4. Large planters open up design opportunities: A big commercial planter accomodates more mature plants and also allows for more plantings, giving interiorscapers and landscapers more room to be creative.
  5. Needing a large pot doesn't mean you have to sacrifice style: From faux stone to aluminum pots to bright globe planter designs, there are big plant pots available to fit any design.
  6. Be sure to consider your plant's roots. Plants with large roots will need deeper pots, while plants with small roots can get by with a large shallow container.
  7. Large commercial outdoor planters need drainage holes: Many of our large commercial pots are also suitable for either indoor or outdoor use, with optional drainage holes. Check out our outdoor planters page for more exterior options.
