7 Horrifying Plants that will Add a Chill to Your Halloween

In the spirit of Halloween, we’ve compiled a list of some of the most horrifying plants that lurk in nature.

1. Bleeding Tooth Fungus
Hydnellum peckii
The young fruit bodies of the Hydnellum peckii are known to “bleed” a bright red, blood-like fluid.
2. Doll’s Eye
Actaea pachypoda
This highly poisonous plant gets its name from its berries, which resemble eyeballs.
3. Red Devil’s Claw
Proboscidea parviflora
As the fruit of the Proboscidea parviflora dries up, the land tail of the seed pod cracks up and splits into two halves that resemble claws.
4. Brain Cactus
Mammillaria elongata cristata
This particular species features a number of wavy ribs which give off the appearance of the human brain.
5. Corpse Flower
Amorphophallus titanum
The odor emitted by this large flower smells like that of rotting flesh thus dubbing it the “corpse flower.”
6. Chinese Black Batflower
Tacca chantrieri
The Tacca chantrieri received its name from its flowers which are somewhat bat-like in shape.
7. Dragon’s Blood Tree
Dracaena cinnabari
The Dragon’s Blood Tree is named for its sap. Its crimson color bears a close resemblance to blood.
