Boost Sales with Green Exercise

Exercise while exposed to nature, referred to as “green exercise,” can improve overall well-being. Specifically, green exercise improves mood and self-esteem.

Several studies performed in the United Kingdom concluded as little as 5 minutes a day of green exercise will help people feel better. Researchers go so far as to say green exercise could be a treatment for depression and other mental illness in some cases.

Why is this significant for indoor landscapers?

Employee morale, as well as health and general well-being, are significant factors in productivity. In short, when employees are well, businesses thrive. It is more cost effective to pay for illness prevention rather than sick days, health care, and the lack of productivity that comes from employees feeling down.

While many business owners know that green exercise can be helpful preventive medicine, many urban businesses don’t have easy access to outdoor spaces. Especially spaces that are safe for activities such as walking or biking. However, many urban businesses do have workout facilities available to employees. Show your potential clients how adding green in the form of living plants to these spaces will go even further to promote well-being.

Add a Water Feature

Be creative with these spaces. Large trees, lush arrangements, and even green walls can create a positive environment that mimics the true outdoors. Further more, adding water to equation increases the overall positive effect. Consider including water features such as ponds or fountains in these exercise spaces as well.

Many office complexes also have available unused space on their roofs. You can design roof top or patio spaces with walking trails to encourage employees to walk outside for a few minutes everyday. Roofs offer more space to create arrangements that mimic parks or even prairie and woodland trails. If several businesses share a building, perhaps they can share the cost of installing a rooftop garden. Alternatively, building owners may invest in a rooftop garden to improve the value of their property.

Others Who Will Benefit

Fitness clubs, schools, and universities will all also benefit from adding living plants to their exercise spaces. Green exercise is most dramatically helpful for young people. Encouraging schools to have green exercise spaces may improve the health of students. Bringing nature indoors can also be especially beneficial to regions that experience long and harsh winters preventing people from exercising outdoors regularly.

Educate Your Clients

As you understand the benefits of green exercise, convey these benefits to your clients. Move your clients from thinking about adding living decoration only to spaces where employees interact with clients to spaces that will improve employee morale as well.

When you can improve their bottom line by improving employee health and morale there is even more value in your indoor landscaping services. Help your clients understand that your interior landscape service is something they can’t afford not to have.
