Window Boxes: They Aren’t Just For Windows

While traveling through Europe one thing that struck me as a delightful trend were the colorful little window boxes hung from the wrought iron railing outside of second and third story apartment windows. They added a quaint homeyness and beauty to the already colorful walls that lined the narrow streets.
This practice of growing colorful arrangements that hang in a small spaces can be used for so many things besides just windows and can add the same charm to a variety of spaces.
Patios are an excellent place to use the window box concept. Outdoor eating spaces at restaurants are typically enclosed by railings. These railings would be perfect for attaching a rectangular container with a seasonal flower display. These boxes can add character to an otherwise unnoticeable piece of architecture.
To work the window box concept in to your indoor designs, you can consider office partitions. The tops of these walls could benefit from a rectangular container giving each employee a sense of quaint homeyness or maybe sleek style in their working spaces. The front of countertops or desks that act as the first round of greeting for incoming guests may also be ideal for these small container arrangement. As you make your plans for your rectangular container, be sure to consider where your container arrangement will be located and plan accordingly. If your container is in front of a desk, you will not want to plant anything with so much height it will block views.
Well planned arrangements can add ambiance and comfort to otherwise cold forms such as railings and partitions. With your help, your clients can transform a dull, lifeless environment into a more comfortable setting.
